5 Nigerians Arrested For Fraud

Five Nigerians have been arrested for allegedly defrauding mobile phone subscribers of their monies.

The five are said to have sent fraudulent text messages to unsuspecting subscribers congratulating them for winning a particular promotion.

Briefing a press conference in Accra Monday, the Greater Accra Regional Police Commander, DCOP Christian Tetteh Yohunu said the suspects succeeded in defrauding subscribers in the environs of Kasao and Budumbura Camp.

According to DCOP Tetteh Yohunu, a telecom service provider reported to the police complaints from its subscribers that a group of fraudsters had been sending text messages that they have won cash prices ranging from GH¢5000 to GH¢45,OOO.

He said, investigations conducted by the police revealed that the suspects had succeeded in defrauding their victims of recharge cards and mobile money transfers.

DCOP Tetteh Yohunu said upon their arrest, the police retrieved mobile phones and several SIM cards from the suspects.
