Mr Joseph Nii Laryea Afotey-Agbo, Greater Accra Regional Minister, says although government would not interfere in the enstooling and enskinning of any traditional area, it would not tolerate any succession process that creates fear and general insecurity.
“It is not the duty of government to select chiefs or who should lead clans but we will not allow such activities to degenerate into conflicts which curtail personal freedoms and development,” he said Mr Afotey Agbo was interacting with chiefs of Nungua and Teshie as part of his tour of the Ledzokuku-Krowor Municipality.
He asked chiefs to respect their people and not abuse their powers since they hold everything in trust for the people.
According to him, the institution of Chieftaincy should rather create the platform for reconciliation, unity and development.
“The President and his entire government respect and honour the chieftaincy institution and would work hard to enhance its ability to partner government in development.”
He called for an end to the drawn-out chieftaincy stalement in Teshie, adding that ” Teshie needs peace and unity. What is the way forward? Let’s set aside our egos and forge ahead as one people.”
