Kenyasi No.1 Traditional Council has banned the buying of special cloths for every funeral in the area.
The Paramount Chief of Kenyasi No.1, Nana Osei Kofi Abiri announced this at the celebration of the first “Akwasidae” at Kenyasi.
According to him, the ban was because parents attach more importance to special funeral cloth than to the education of their children.
He said any parent caught using a new funeral cloth will be fined 24 sheep.
Nana Osei Kofi Abiri in an interview with Adom News charged parents to invest in their childrens education than concentrating on the dead.Meanwhile, the residents of Kenyansi No. 1 have applauded the decision by the Chief and the traditional council.
They believe it will reduce the extravagant funerals in the area and also bring respite to those who have to borrow to buy a new cloth just to impress people.
