Crime Wave Reduces In Wenchi - Divisional Commander

Crime wave within the Wenchi Municipality has reduced, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Mr. Emmanuel Kwadwo Djan-Kyere, the Divisional Police Commander, has disclosed.

The Command covers the Wenchi Municipality, Nsawkaw in Tain, Banda, Techiman North and South, Nkoranza North and South, Kintampo North and South, Pru and Atebubu/Amantin Districts, as well as Sene East and Sene West Districts of Brong-Ahafo.

ACP Djan-Kyere told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview in Wenchi that cases of murder reduced from three in 2013, to one in 2014, adding that armed robbery also decreased from four to one during the same period.

He said stealing reduced from 174 to 128, while assault saw a drastic reduction from 146 to 96, with unlawful damage declining from 34 to 14.

The Divisional Commander said threat of harm also decreased from 44 to 31, while unlawful conduct declined from 23 to 11, and attributed the reduction to intensified Police Patrols in the Municipality.

ACP Djan-Kyere explained that because Indian hemp smoking and peddling were very high in the Municipality, crime at a point, increased, but added that the Police launched a swoop last year and clamped down on dealers and smokers of drug.

He said the Police had intensified patrols on robbery prone areas within the division, and therefore appealed to the general public to inform and provide the Police with information about people with questionable characters.

ACP Djan-Kyere emphasized that crime control and prevention was a shared and collective responsibility, and expressed optimism that effective Police-civilian relationship would be built and strengthened in crime-fighting in the country.
