Pastor Arrested Over Adultery

Agona Swedru Divisional Command of the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service have arrested a 36-year-old pastor of the African Faith Tabernacle Church at Gomoa Dominase, for causing emotional abuse and psychological trauma to his wedded wife.

Pastor Bright Hackman, in-charge of the Gomoa Dominase branch of the church, was alleged to have impregnated the wife of a church member and abandoned his own wife, Abena Ackom, 41.

Chief Inspector Philip Arthur, Head of the Swedru Divisional Command of DOVVSU, who made this known to the media at Agona Swedru, said Pastor Hackman and his wife had been married for four years but had no issues.

Chief Inspector Arthur said before the marriage, Pastor Hackman had told the wife that he had no child, and wanted to marry her and reproduce children but the procreation had not happened since they solemnized their marriage.

The DOVVSU head said, when the dream of Pastor Hackman became shattered, he decided to look for another woman, who happened to be his church member’s wife.

According to Chief Inspector Arthur, this infuriated the wedded wife who confronted her husband over infidelity; but Pastor Hackman got annoyed and allegedly refused to perform his responsibilities as husband because of the new girlfriend.

Chief Inspector Arthur said the aggrieved wife lodged a complaint about her husband’s behavior at the head office of the African Faith Tabernacle Church at Ayinam in the Eastern Region.

According to Chief Inspector Arthur, the General Head of the church, Prophet David Nkansah, told Pastor Hackman that the church does not practice polygamy, and as a result, he decided to divorce his wedded wife.

The police officer said sometime last year, Yaw Tawiah, had a misunderstanding with his wife, and asked Pastor Hackman to settle the matter, and that gave him (Hackman) the opportunity to impregnate the member’s wife.

Chief Inspector Arthur maintained that since Pastor Hackman’s behavior constitutes domestic violence, he would be arraigned before court when investigations were completed.
