Dumsor In Media Houses Pose Security Threat GJA Prez

President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) says the erratic power supply which has hit the nation poses a security threat.

Affail Monney who was reacting to the devastating effects of the energy crisis on some media houses on Adom FM Tuesday noted that journalists have the duty to inform the public “and so if there is no light even for a day in a media house to work then people will use that opportunity to destroy the little peace we have, and if that happens then it would be disastrous”.

Ghana has been battling with inconsistent power supply despite various promises from government to address the situation.

The nation’s power distributor, Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) is currently shedding load because of the inadequate power it receives from the Volta River Authority and the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo).

Already some media houses in Ghana are feeling the real effects of the ongoing power rationing on their operations even forcing some to close down.

According to them, they are left with no option than to cut short their expenditure.

But Mr. Monney appealed to the power producers ECG to put in place a special dispensation in order to ease the pressure that has mounted on media houses.

“Our outfit together with the National Media Commission will try as much as possible to intervene as soon as possible because the media plays a special role to the development of the country, so they need to be considerate.

“We can’t allow the stability of this nation to wobble because of the energy crisis
