The overlord of Nzemaland, King Kaku Aka the Third, has expressed grave concern about the alarming rate of school drop-outs in the Nzema-East Municipality.
He regretted that this phenomenon has culminated in unprecedented teenage pregnancies in the area, thereby jeopardizing the future of the youth.
King Aka was addressing students in second cycle schools during an entertainment programme at Axim in the Western Region.
The participating schools were Nsein Senior High, Kikam Technical Institute(KIMTECH), Esiama Secondary Technical, Manye Academy, Nkroful Agricultural Secondary School(NASS) and Baidoe Bonsu Senior High.
The programme, the first of its kind, was organized by Dream Houze Entertainment, a non-governmental organisation (ngo) based at Axim.
It was on the theme: 'Say No To School Drop-Out".
King Aka urged parents to take keen interest in the education and upbringing of their children.
He used the occasion to appeal to government to pass a legislation that would make education compulsory at the basic level.
The king observed that as future leaders, the youth require good training to become responsible citizens, and asked parents to monitor the growth and progress of their children.
Mr David Taswell, Chief Executive Officer of the ngo, said the event aimed at unearthing talents and potentialities of students in second cycle schools in the Municipality.
The event also fostered unity among school children, and afforded them the opportunity to exchange ideas.
All the six participating schools, were presented with a pair of dust bin,a set of jerseys, and school flags.
