Three private security guards at the Accra Mall, who allegedly subjected a trader to severe beatings which resulted in his death have been arrested by the police.

Francis Adzaho, 35, Emmanuel Adjei Opoku, 31 and Godwin Amenyah, 31, are reported to have assaulted Emmanuel Boateng, 30, at the car park of the mall, until he became unconscious and dumped him at the Motorway by-pass.

The deceased, according to the police, was believed to be suffering from high fever.

He is said to have alighted from a vehicle at Spanner Junction, East Legon and run to the Accra Mall car park area but was accosted by the suspects who considered him to be mentally retarded, and assaulted him.

An autopsy report signed by Dr. L. Edusei of the Ghana Police Hospital and made available to The Ghanaian Times indicated that he died from head injury.

The Head of the Homicide Unit of the Ghana Police Service, Deputy Superintendent (DSP) William Sedrame, who briefed The Ghanaian Times in Accra yesterday disclosed that on February 3, at about 6 p.m., Boateng boarded a commercial vehicle from Tudu to the American House at East Legon, Accra.

On reaching Spanner Junction, he alighted from the vehicle leaving his phone, and ran to the Mall.

DSP Sedrame said Boateng was spotted by one of the security guards at the parking lot, moving in-between the cars and raised the alarm which attracted the other guards.

The guards assaulted him to the state of unconsciousness, and carried him to the motorway by-pass and dumped him there, until midnight when he died.

He said the police received information of the death of Boateng and later conveyed his body to the Police Hospital mortuary.

The police afterwards, arrested the suspects upon initial investigations, and are in custody, assisting with investigations.

Meanwhile, Mr. Victor Osei Nkansah a cousin of the deceased has told The Times that Boateng’s wife, Cecilia Manu, after realising that her husband had delayed in coming home in the evening of February 2, unusual of him, called him on his cell phone, but someone else responded to the call, saying that the phone had been left in a tro-tro.

Mr. Nkansah said, he subsequently called the cell phone and the receiver told him that the owner alighted from a tro-tro and headed to the mall, and that frantic effort was made to call him to return for his phone, but his attention was far away.

According to Mr. Nkansah, he reported the matter to the Airport Police where he was given an “Extract from the Station Diary” to go to a radio station to announce the missing of his cousin, which he did that but it did not yield any result

He said after couple of visits to the Airport Police, he was told that they had conveyed a dead body from the mall to the police mortuary and, therefore, the family went there to identify the body as Boateng.

According to Mr. Nkansah he took it upon himself to conduct an investigation around the mall and gathered from some people around that they saw securitymen at the mall beat up someone like Boateng and later dumped the body in front of the mall, which information he made available to the Airport Police.

He said the case was later transferred from the Airport Police Station to the Homicide Unit, Police Headquarters.

According Mr Nkansah his cousin returned from a funeral in Kumasi and went to sell second hand clothes at UTC, after which he socialised with his friend before boarding a vehicle home.
