Deputy Minister Launches Operation Go Back To School

As part of efforts to improve education for his constituents, the Deputy Minister for Education in charge of pre-tertiary, Alex Kyeremeh, has formally launched ‘Operation go back to school’ in the Techiman North District of the Brong Ahafo region, with a call on parents to support and monitor the performance of their wards who are enrolling in the programme.

‘Operation go back to school,’ an initiative of the Minister, is an evening remedial school for students who have dropped out of school because they were unable to pass Mathematics, English Language and  Integrated Science in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

Some unsuccessful students, at the launch of the programme, registered to start their studies. Some 450 students in the Techiman North District have so far registered for the evening remedial school slated for three centres.

Alex Kyereme, speaking at the launch of the programme, said Mathematics, English Language and Integrated Science have always been difficult subjects for many students.

“Even though most of the students excelled in their elective subjects, admission into tertiary institutions is not guaranteed because they failed in Mathematics, English Language and Integrated Science. This situation has landed several students in the Techiman North Constituency out of school, and by extension creating massive unemployment in the area,” he revealed.

The Deputy Education Minister mentioned that the six-unit classroom block will be constructed for three basic schools within the Techiman North District. He has also provided books and other learning materials for the success of ‘Operations go back to school.’

Victoria Amoaa Danso, who is among those who registered to start their studies, spoke to The Finder.

“My heart’s desire is to become a chartered accountant, but I could not make the grades so I am very happy the MP has initiated such a programme to help us.”
