Nigeria Elections: It'll Be Difficult For Goodluck Jonathan To Lose; He Might Even Rig It.... - Antwi-Danso

Dr. Vladimir Antwi-Danso, a Senior Research Fellow at the Legon Centre for International Affairs, University of Ghana says it will be difficult for the President of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan to lose the elections.

According to him, it will be difficult for President Jonathan to lose because as an incumbent, he will try all means to rig the elections.

It will be difficult for him to lose but after he wins, there will be confusion because Buhari is also keen on winning… Incumbency has advantage; he will do everything he can to win….the kind of money going out, there will be rigging and the results will be declared in favour of Goodluck Jonathan. But his victory will bring confusion….but anything can happen,” he told Kwami Sefa Kayi in an interview on PEACE FM's morning show ‘Kokrokoo.

The election which will be keenly contested will be between President Goodluck Jonathan and former military ruler Muhammadu Buhari. President Jonathan will be seeking a second term in office.

February, 14, 2015 was supposed to have been the voting date; however it had to be delayed for six weeks since the military said it could not guarantee security.

Dr. Antwi-Danso further noted that “everybody is afraid not just because of confusion or an attack that may occur but also because one party might not be satisfied with the results. Ghana will be the next destination if we don’t pray to avert any calamity…rumours are even rife that a lot of Nigerians own lands in Ghana. We should just pray for a peaceful election."

Nigeria over the past few years has been battling Boko Haram, an Islamist group who has caused a lot of damage in Nigeria.

In view of this Dr Antwi Danso has asked the Nigeria military not to only concentrate on known areas where the Islamist group attacks.

They will continue bombing several areas during the elections and so the security agencies should not focus on only a few known areas. They are fully dispersed and so their eyes should be everywhere,” he said.
