Five more suspected armed robbers were pointed out yesterday at the second identification parade in the past two weeks, held at the Regional Police Headquarters at Ho.
In all ,14 suspects were paraded, with 10 victims of the recent robberies, taking part in the identification exercise
One of the suspects, believed to be the main architect behind the robberies in Ho, Michael ‘Obina’ Agbanyo, 27, was pointed out six times by the victims.
The other suspects identified are: Happy Gawu, 22; Frank Akwesu, 22; Anthony Yankyara, 34; and Kofi Awoyi, 23.
Briefing the media after the exercise, Chief Superintendent James Kofi Abraham, Volta Region Crime Officer, said that some of the suspects were arrested in a swoop and others by the night patrol team, last week.
He said that they were arrested at different locations in the municipality.
“Now that some of them have been identified we are now going to carry out further investiga-tions,” Chief Superintendent Abraham said.
According to the Regional Crime Officer, the police would intensify their night patrols in the municipality, Ho, and also continue to embark on swoops and operations in the fight against armed robbery, “until sanity returns to Ho”.
A fortnight ago, four out of 18 armed robbery suspects paraded by the police were identified by their victims.
Since March, this year, there have been at least six reported armed robberies in the municipality.
There were two armed robbery raids in the municipality in the evening of March 9.
In the first instance, six men, wielding guns and machetes, attacked a resident of New Housing, Mr. Kofi Selinam, at his shop at about 8pm and made away with an unspecified amount of money and cellular recharge vouchers worth GH¢318.80.
In the other raid, four men wearing masks attacked a teacher, Mr. Bright Agbesi, in his house at the RTC park at midnight, and inflicted machete wounds on his right breast, wrist and one of his fingers, before collecting four cellular phones and an unspecified amount of money from him.
Last week, a member of the night Police Patrol Team, Constable Eric Osei Nyarko, who responded to a robbery incident at the C.K. Road Junction, was shot in the head by a sniper.
Ho residents have been living in great fear for sometime now, as a result of the high incidence of armed robberies in the municipality.
