The First Lady, Mrs Lordina Mahama, has called on caretakers of foster homes and orphanages to give the children the best of care and see them as gifts from God.
“Children are vulnerable so we must do our best to cater for them; we should give them our attention, love, care and support in order for them to be physically, morally and mentally sound to develop,” she said.
Mrs Mahama made these remarks when she donated assorted food items to the Osu Children’s Home and the Frafraha Christ Foster Home in Accra at separate ceremonies, as part of her commitment to support the vulnerable.
The items, which included bags of rice, sugar, oil, toiletries, laptops, candies, cartons of milk and Milo beverage drink, were meant to show her love to the orphans as the Easter festivities approached.
With adequate support, care and resources, Mrs Mahama said, children grew and became responsible, focused adults.
She, therefore, commended the staff of the homes for the selfless dedication towards the upbringing of the children.
Receiving the items, the Manager of the Osu Children’s Home, Madam Sharon Abbey, expressed gratitude for the donation and the construction of a children’s block, which would be completed by the middle of 2015.
She appealed to the First Lady to support the home with a vehicle which would transport the children to their various schools.
The Supervisor of Christ Foster Home, Madam Henrietta Asare Agyemang, also commended the First Lady for her continuous support to the home.
