Man In Trouble Over Demolition Of Structure

A man has run into trouble with the law after he allegedly caused a structure under construction at Ohwim, Kumasi, to be leveled to the ground.

Ernest Opoku was on Tuesday put before a Kumasi Circuit Court, presided over by Mrs Afia Adu-Amankwaah, charged with causing unlawful damage and was granted a GH¢15,000 bail with two sureties.

He was additionally ordered to report to the police every Friday.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the offence and he would make his next court appearance on Thursday, April 30.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Stephen Tenkorang said the incident happened on January 19.

The complainant, Charity Owusu-Afriyie, had acquired a parcel of land from the chief of Ohwim in 2013 and had started developing it when Opoku engaged labourers to pull the structure down.

A report was consequently made to the police and he was arrested.

The accused in his caution statement claimed title to the land but could not produce relevant documents to back his assertion.
