The Most Reverend Professor Emmanuel Asante, the Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church, has advised christians not to allow politics to destroy the Church.
He emphasized that the Church was a symbol of the presence of the Lord, and that behaviours, attitudes and acts that did not conform to the lives of Christians, should stop.
“ The chapel must be the house of prayer, the house of equalization, and the house of teaching, where people come and feel at home,” he said.
The Presiding Bishop who was giving a sermon at the official opening and dedication of the beautiful edifice of the Mount Zion Chapel of the Methodist Church at Obuasi-Amangoase, added, “ the acts of gossiping, egoism, tribalism and discrimination among members of the Church must be condemned”.
He stressed the need for the members to guard against making the chapel the house of contention, adding that the chapel should be a place where members find fellowship in the true sense of fraternity, brotherliness and comradeship.
In an interaction with the media later, the Presiding Bishop, who is also the Chairman of the Ghana Peace Council, noted that society could not do away with conflicts, but what was necessary was for society to ensure that the conflicts did not degenerate into violence.
The Most Rev. Prof Asante bemoaned the new culture in the Ghanaian society where people placed partisan tag on everything said by people in the society.
The ceremony was graced by the presence of Dompoasehene, Okofo Sobin Kae the second, and the Obuasi Municipal Chief Executive , Mr Richard Ofori Agyeman Boadi.
The official sod-cutting ceremony that marked the start of the construction of the chapel, took place on December 9, 1995.
