The First Lady, Nana Lordina Mahama has called on corporate entities, civil society organisations and non-governmental organisations to support the efforts of the government to achieve universal and quality healthcare for Ghanaians.

She said although the government has allocated about 12.5 per cent of its national budget in the health sector, the country could still not meet the Abuja Declaration target of 15 percent of the national budget allocated for the health sector for the year.

"The scale of responsibility for achieving universal, quality health is enormous and cannot be achieved by one entity alone" she said.

The First Lady, therefore, urged civil society, non-governmental organisations, religious bodies and corporate entities to support the government to improve the health status of the citizens and help achieve Abuja Declaration as well as the agenda for transformation.

Mrs. Mahama said this when Lordina Foundation, which she is the President, donated medical supplies to the Kade Government hospital and the St Joseph Hospital at Koforidua all in the Eastern Region. The donation in the Eastern Region brings to 26 the number of health facilities the Lordina Foundation has donated medical supplies to, across the country since the launch of its medical outreach last year.

The First Lady said her foundation would continue to support health facilities especially those in the under served communities in the country to enhance their quality healthcare delivery.

She said her foundation in collaboration with its partners such as MedShare USA has donated ambulances, medical equipment and supplies to health facilities in mainly deprived areas in the country.

She said Government over the years has invested in the health sector, which has delivered positive outcomes, especially in the area of reducing infant and child morbidity and mortality.

Meanwhile, she said the government would continue to invest in the health sector recognising the importance of health to the development of the human resources.

Mr Antwi Boasiako Sekyere, the Eastern Regional Minister, commended the First Lady for her commitment to support healthcare as well as her love, care and support for the children, orphans and vulnerable in society.
He also indicated that the road networks to the hospital and other areas in the communities were in a deplorable state and needed to be constructed.
