Tony Aidoo Dropped

Dr. Tony Aidoo, National Democratic Congress (NDC) hatchet-man appears to have been dropped from the University of Ghana Council. He was visibly absent during the inauguration of the policy-making body of the premier tertiary institution in the country. The newly-inaugurated University of Ghana Council which came into being in the twilight of last week has as its chairman, His Lordship Justice Dr. Samuel Kofi Date-Baah, a Justice of the Supreme Court. Other members are Prof C.N.B. Tagoe, Vice Chancellor, Prof John Meyer Hyde, Mrs. Elizabeth Addabor, Prof Robert Domingo Baeta, Prof Akosua Adomako Ampofo, Dr. Esther O. Sakyi-Dawson, Mr. Samuel Ofori-Adjei, Mr. Kwaku Mensa-Bonsu, Mr. Bekui John-Mark, Mr. Moses Adu-Gyimah, Dr. Kodzo Gavua and Mr. Peter L. Lumor. With no reason given for the subtle dropping of his name, all manner of speculations have been ignited. The mention of his name when the membership of the council was made public became a headline subject in a section of the media, especially as many thought he had been penciled to chair the body. Sources hinted Daily Guide that the inclusion of Dr. Aidoo in the membership of the council was greeted with a fuss and copious protestation by the academic community. However, many expected that since he has been denied the chairmanship of the council, the one-time lecturer would definitely find a place among in the membership of the council, but the unexpected appears to have happened with his name visibly absent from the final list of those sworn in. No explanation has been forthcoming, leaving the curious to make do with varied imaginations. Dr. Aidoos schedule at the Presidency bestows on him the responsibility of ensuring that the NDC manifesto and other programmes are adhered to by relevant policy-makers and ministers. When he was named as a member of the Council of the premier university, many saw it as a reward for his commitment to the cause of the NDC whose campaign trail he was totally attached to in the pre-election days.
