Heavy Trucks Banned On Kwahu Roads

Heavy duty trucks are being denied access to the Nkawkaw - Obomeng stretch of road on the Kwahu ridge.

The Nkawkaw Divisional Police Commander Chef Superintendent James Sarfo Peprah says the directive, which will take effect from Thursday March 2, 2015 will enable free flow of traffic during the Easter festivities.

Speaking in an interview with Adom News, Chief Superintendent Sarfo Peprah indicated that in order to get a violence free Easter at Kwahu, police patrol teams have also been dispersed to neighboring towns to maintain calm.

Vehicles conveying Charcoal, foodstuffs and other items from the Afram Plains are expected to park at Kwahu Adawso because the Kwahu Tafo police personnel at the Barrier will not allow them pass.

Those coming from Accra, Kumasi and beyond are to park at Nkawkaw till the ban is lifted. The Nkawkaw - Atibie road is under construction and will therefore not be opened to commercial and private vehicles.

But some of the Afram Plains traders have kicked against the directive, saying their foodstuffs will rot and their investments go to waste.

Meanwhile, the Kwahu South District Chief Executive, Joseph Omari, in collaboration with Ghana Feeder Roads authorities have created access routes from Obomeng to Mpraeso and Obo to improve the traffic situation.
