Female Politicians Add Voice To Calls To Demystify EC Strong Room

Pressure is mounting on the Electoral Commission (EC) to demystify its operation room as women politicians join the calls for transparent polls.

New Patriotic Party (NPP) Women’s Organiser for Ashanti tells rawgist.comthe “strong room” of the EC should be demystified to make election results more credible and acceptable.

Nana Ama Ampomah points out that the current system where only party agents are allowed to witness the final certification of results and proceedings with officials of the EC does not make the system credible.

“Counting in the so called strong room should be done in open space for everyone including the media to also witness… this will make results more credible than ever”, she suggested.

She wants the Electoral Commission to listen to her because “women and Children are the most affected by election disturbances”.

She also urged women in the party to continue to be faithful and loyal as NPP has more packages for women who are interested in serving in any capacity.

The party recently withdrew its female affirmative action aimed at increasing female parliamentarians; a situation which has become a source of worry to some women in the party.
