Akufo Addo: Use Offices To Forge Unity

Nana Addo-Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the 2008 Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party, has reminded members of Parliament to use their offices to forge unity and development in the country. Offices of MPs, he said were meant to be platforms to listen to views, suggestions and problems of the electorate and not to sow seeds of division. He was speaking at the formal opening ceremony of the Office of Member of Parliament (MP) for Asante-Mampong, Mr. Francis ADDAI-Nimoh last Wednesday.He received a warm welcome when he joined the chiefs and people of Asante-Mampong to officially open the MPs office. As his vehicle went round the office ground, there was ecstasy as supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP0 in their party paraphernalia sang party songs and hailed him. Nana Akufo Addo commended Mr. Addai-Nimoh for taking such a bold step which he said would enhance the effective and efficient administration of the constituency. He commended the healthy relationship existing between the MP who is an NPP and the Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Daniel Appau Ohyiaman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). This he noted, had rekindled the spirit of unity of the people in the area and called for its sustenance. He said it was only through unity that the nation�s progress could be guaranteed saying �it is a necessary ingredient and should be sustained.� Nana Akufo Addo reminded the people that there was only one MP and one Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) in the area and therefore called on all to give them the needed respect and recognition so as to facilitate the development of the area. The MP for Nsuta-Beposo Kwamang Constituency, Mr. Kwame Osei-Prempeh observed that, given the support and encouragement, Mr. Addai-Nimoh could transform the constituency. He therefore urged the people to rally behind him for the rapid development of the area. Mr. Osei-Prempeh advised the member of the NPP to refrain from unnecessary litigations and petty squabbles which he described as an �ill-wind blows nobody good.� The MP urged them to unite more than ever before and adopt strategies to wrest power from the National Democratic Congress (NDC). He said he would continue to team up with the MP for the development of the municipality. Mr. Addai-Nimoh said his objective of establishing the office was to involve all his constituents to confront the challenges facing the constituents. Mr. Addai-Nimoh reiterated his determination to serve his constituents with honesty, hard work and humility. Nana Boakye-Yiadom Atonsa, the Gyaasehene of Asante-Mampong Traditional Area who represented the Mamponghene, Dasebre Osei Bonsu II, pledged the support of the Council to enable both Mr. Addai-Nimoh and the MCE to succeed in their duties. Nana Atonsa advised members of the NDC and the NPP to avoid infighting among which he said could damage their parties and bring disaffection to the traditional area.
