Next EC Chairman Must Be "Tough" And "Non-Partisan"

James Kwabena Bomfeh of the Conventions People's Party (CPP) says the search for new Chairman of the Electoral Commission (EC) should not rest on partisan sycophantic personality.

Calling for a replacement, he noted that whoever replaces Dr. Afari Gyan should be "tough" and steadfast in his decisions as Dr. Afari Gyan.

According to him, nobody should discredit the immense work done by Dr. Afari Gyan to promote free and fair elections.

“Dr. Afari Gyan stood in the face of all the difficulties and declared a party in opposition winner in the first round and in the run-off, declared the candidate of the New Patriotic Party, John Agyekum Kufour, winner of the Presidential elections. That is not somebody who is wavering. That’s not somebody who can be cajoled, somebody who can be manipulated!”

Speaking on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo", James Kwabena Bomfeh, also called Kabila was keen on the caliber of person to be appointed in the stead of Dr. Afari Gyan.

“There are some persons in the NDC but when you mention his name, people in NPP will not have a problem with that person. People in CPP will not have a problem with that person. People in PPP will not have a problem with that person. There could be somebody in CPP and when you mention his name today, NDC people will not have a problem with that person. NPP will not have a problem with that person…Equally so, there could be somebody in the NPP, he has general acceptance…

“I can say for a fact that people with such general acceptance bear a certain quality, thus they are not overly partisan. We need that kind of a person...We need somebody who is tough and can withstand changes in times like Dr. Afari Gyan did.”
