Hausa Community Installs Sub-Chiefs At Nima

The Hausa community in Nima, a suburb of Accra, has installed 18 sub-chiefs and six queen mothers to augment the efforts of the Hausa Chief of the area, Sarki Shaibu Salley Mayaki, in bringing development and sustaining peace.

The colorful installation ceremony in Accra over the weekend brought together lots of youth and women groups within the Hausa community in the Greater Accra region, Chiefs and other prominent people among which included the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Dr Nuhu Shaributu, former deputy National Organizer of the National Democratic Congress, Alhaji Baba Sheriff and ASP Hajia Saada Mustapha Mohammed, Nima MTTU commander.

In an interview with The aL-hAJJ at the sidelines of the program, the Hausa Chief of Nima, Sarki Shaibu Salley Mayaki, explained that decision making and development have become a major challenge to the area due to the absence of the sub-chiefs.

“It is very necessary to have sub-chiefs because many of them have died and decision making has become difficult. So filling the vacant seats will bring sanity and speed up development in the area.”

According to him one of their principal obligations of the sub-chiefs and the queen mothers is to strategize and map out developmental strategies and plan that would bring total transformation and progress in the community, adding that “the queen mothers will also be in charge of marriage issues among the Hausa community.

“It is a great day that we have finally installed sub chiefs and queen mothers and this marks the beginning of good image for the Hausa community in Nima. We are expecting a total transformation and new ways of doing things in the coming years,” Sarki Shaibu Salley Mayaki noted.
He urged the youth in the community to take advantage of the ceremony to reflect, ponder over disturbing issues affecting the Hausa community and the country and pursue their education with seriousness.

He said “we want the youth to pursue their education to the highest level. Basic and secondary education should not be the end for them. We need technocrats, doctors, engineers and all other experts in the community.”

The ceremony was also used to present certificate of honor to the National Chief Imam, the former deputy Organizer of the NDC, Commander of MTTU and the 18 sub-chiefs and six queen mothers for their contribution to Ghana.
