The Second Lady, Mrs. Matilda Amissah-Arthur, has advised  children in rural areas not to see themselves as disadvantaged,  but rather take advantage of educational opportunities  in their communities.

She said as future leaders,  they must take their studies seriously since education is critical and key in nation-building.

Mrs Amissah-Arthur gave the advice when she opened the Ghana Christian International High School, Pomaa-Adieso Campus at Hwiremoase in the Adansi North of the Ashanti Region.

She urged  children to see themselves as the potential leaders of the country, adding that no child was born a daft, and even those from poor backgrounds must use the opportunities at their disposal to study hard, be disciplined in order to become responsible  citizens in the near future.

Mrs Amissah-Arthur urged the children to continue to hold on to the shared Christian values, by using their lives as living testimonies,  and living worthy lives.

She charged them to show genuine love and integrity, be disciplined and obedient because God gives wisdom.

She further challenged the children to be guided by the sound Bible principles of good morals and truthfulness.

Mrs  Amissah Arthur praised teachers in the school who had accepted to come to a rural community to help the children, assuring them that  their efforts and hard work would not be in vain.

She urged the guardians to assist the school authorities to shun absenteeism,  and allow the children to be in school, instead of taking to petty trading.

She commended Professor Steven Adei, former Rector of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) for his vision and continuous role modeling in the area of education in the country,  and assisting the less privileged in society.

Mrs Amissah Arthur  donated assorted educational materials to the school children.

She urged the teachers to take good care of the books,  and also help the school children to make maximum use of them.

The management of Beige Capital, a financial institution,  promised to donate a bus to the school to help them with their transportation needs, whilst Data Bank also promised to gave out scholarships to some of the students.

Professor Adei, who is a  Co-founder and Executive Chairman of Ghana Christian International High School,  said his objective for establishing the school was to give back to the community education which the community lacked, so that the young brilliant but needy students would get the opportunity to shine and become future leaders wherever they found themselves,  since education was key.

He said the school which is a non-profit organization has its main branch in Accra with the aim of helping children in the country get quality education, together with Christian moral values.     

He said the Adieso campus was started last year and currently has 41 students and is a day school with dedicated members of staff who are determined to see to it that the children excel.
