Encourage Government To Do More � Accra Mayor

Dr Alfred Oko Vanderpuije, Accra Metropolitan Chief Executive, has urged the chiefs and people of Apirede to encourage government to implement development projects in the area.

He made call when a delegation of chiefs led by Nana Saforo Okoampah the Third, Chief of Apirede in the Akuapem North District, paid a courtesy call on him at his office in Accra.

Dr Vanderpuije said government valued the significant roles the chiefs and people of the Eastern Region had played in the socio-economic development of Ghana, to promote quality education for the people.

He pledged the Accra Metropolitan Assembly’s readiness to support the construction an of information communication technology (ICT) centre being constructed in the town, so that more children would benefit from it.

He said “AMA had implemented its ambitious plan of building more than 100 Millennium City Schools in Accra.”

Dr Vanderpuije said Accra being the capital, the AMA had initiated plans to encourage other districts to emulate, saying “we have to do things with a standard of excellence for rapid development.

“Very soon the Kwame Nkrumah inter-change would be opened to allow the free flow of traffic, Bus Rapid Transit would soon take off, as well as some 100 kilometres of roads in Accra would be re-constructed,” he enumerated.

He said urbanization was the problem Accra was facing daily with a population of about five million and refuse being generated was also about 3,000 tons daily.

“This is why AMA is trying to recycle all waste generated and the construction of more digesters to take care of liquid waste.”

Nana Okoampah commended the Accra Mayor for his vision in taking bold initiatives and responsibility for the construction of these school complexes.

He inspired the Accra Mayor to continue to engage and establish further partnership and collaboration with Apirede.

He urged the people to support government to bring absolute development to the area.

Other chiefs of the delegation were Nana Oquire Henaku I, Nana Kofi Beadu and Nana Akosua Asamoah I, Queen-mother of Apirede.
