George Kumi, a former Ambassador to Libya in the John Agyekum Kufuor’s administration on Tuesday filed his nomination to contest the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP), primary in the Sunyani East Constituency.

He is contesting Kwasi Ameyaw-Cheremeh, the incumbent NPP Member of Parliament, who filed his nomination two weeks ago.

Mr Kumi who is also a former High Commissioner to Nigeria, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) after presenting his nomination form that he was unhappy that the Sunyani municipality still lagged behind in development.

He said most of the communities in the municipality lacked basic social facilities such as toilet and potable water.

“I will make sure that every household in the municipality benefit from in-house toilet to improve on the sanitation situation here,” the former Ambassador stated.

Mr Kumi appealed to his followers to guard against provocative statements during the campaign, and urged the entire party members not to allow the internal elections to divide them.

He said the bright chances of the NPP in the 2016 general elections would be wasted, if issues such as petty bickering and internal wranglings were not resolved.

Mr Kumi said that the 2016 general elections were crucial to the NPP, and the party needed personalities like him to contest the Sunyani East Constituency seat to retain it, and consequently ensure a landslide victory in the presidential election.
