Director General Of GBC To Render Apology

The Director General of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, Mr. William Ampem-Darko is to render an extensive and unqualified apology to Hon. K. T. Hammond, MP for Adansi-Asokwa and the entire house for his verbal assault on the MP and Parliament in general as recommended by the Privileges Committee of Parliament which investigated the case and reported to the House today. It will be recalled that Mr. Ampem-Darko on March 24, 2009 insulted Hon. K. T. Hammond within the precincts of Parliament. Presenting the privileges committees report on the incident to the House, the First Deputy Speaker and Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Doe Adjaho said Mr. William Ampem-Darko showed a deep sense of remorse when he appeared before the Privileges Committee and expressed readiness to render unqualified apology through the media if granted the opportunity. All the MPs who commented on the committees report which was adopted by the House emphasized forgiveness for Mr. Ampem-Darko in view of the deep sense of regret he displayed before the Committee. The Minority leader, Hon. Kyei Mensah Bonsu and the majority leader, Hon. Alban Bagbin admonished the public not to take parliament for granted nor do anything which will breach the privileges of members of the House. They also urged MPs to be mindful of their conduct and utterances both in parliament and outside the House in order not to put parliament into disrepute.
