The Founder and Chief Executive Officer of IMANI Ghana, Franklin Cudjoe is worried why Ghana’s Foreign Ministry did not make any effort to help release Ghanaian convicted drug kingpin in Indonesia.

Martin Anderson, the Ghanaian convicted of drug offences in Indonesia, and eight others, have been executed by firing squad by the Indonesia government.

Anderson, also known as Belo, was convicted of possession of 50 grams of heroin in Jakarta in November 2003 and was sentenced to death in June 2006.

The others are Silvester Obiekwe and Raheem Agbaje Salami (Nigerians), Zainal Abidin (Indonesian), Rodrigo Gularte (Brazilian), Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran (Australians) and Serge Atlaoui (French).

The execution was delayed following an appeal from the Australian government for the release of their two citizens.

However, hours after Martin’s execution, Franklin took to Facebook to express his dissatisfaction and charged the Foreign Ministry to “do more” next time is such situation.

When I was traveling in Australia last February, I witnessed the enormous domestic and global campaign by the Foreign Minister to plead for clemency for the two Aussie drug convicts not to be executed by Indonesia.

"...I had no idea then that there were Nigerian and Ghanaian nationals facing similar fate. We still need to do more. In the end the convicted drug peddlers were executed anyway, but at least Australia is remembered for pushing the button for humane treatment of all convicts
