Ex Sports Minister Mahama Ayariga Set to Buy Shares In Medeama SC

Former Youth and Sports Minister Mahama Ayariga will in coming weeks negotiate the purchase of part of Ghana Premier League Club Medeama SC with president Moses Armah. Five years ago, Ghanaian construction magnate and businessman mogul, Moses Armah was involved in the surprise and biggest takeover in Ghana football history when he completed the full takeover of local Premier League club Kessben FC in a deal worth US$600,000. The Mauve and Yellow outfit competed in the CAF Confederations Cup last season and the financial involvements in the Africa second-tier inter club competition has taken a toll on the Western club and it is obvious there is mounting financial stress crippling the once attractive side. Sources within Medeama SC have revealed to Ghana Sports that the club has struggled to settle their heavy bills in recent months with coach Tom Strands being owed up to three months salary. Ayariga is understood to not want complete ownership of Tarkwa-based side, but he does have his eye on at least a 50 percent stake - an amount which would make him the club's majority shareholder, together with Moses Parker. Ghana Sports has gathered the club's hierarchy have discussed selling stakes to an investor with Moses Armah ready to offer up to 50% to prospective buyers and it has been revealed that former Youth and Sports Minister Mahama Ayariga has been linked with a takeover of the club after deal brokers engaged in talks with the Bawku Central Member of Parliament. The 40-year-old ambitious politician has developed a deep-seated interest in football and is now the owner of Division One outfit Tamale All Stars. Ayariga bought the club in February this year from one time Northern Regional Football Association chairmanship contender Karim Starboy. And with Medeama SC appearing a more enticing brand with their continental appeal and local pedigree, could tempt the Environment and Science minister into tabling a bid.
