2015 GAA National Circuit Championships Set For Sunyani

Only a day remains before the Interplast Ghana sponsored 2015 Ghana Athletics Association Circuit Championships gets underway at the Sunyani Senior High School Park in Sunyani on Saturday, 9th May, 2015.

The first leg of the biggest athletics meet on the local calendar will see over 300 athletes compete for glory in an attempt to meet the GAA qualification standards for both the World Championships and the All Africa Games.

The star attraction will be, without a doubt, the fastest 100m and 200m home based sprinter this year, John Osei Kofi, who will be seeking to stake a claim in the national team.

He will be joined by other national stars such as the 2014 Overall Circuit champion Emmanuel Ofori Asante, African javelin silver medalist Mary Zuta Narteh, national 400m runner Shawkia Iddrisu, among others. With the WASSCE virtually over now, the Circuit will also welcome Ghana’s promising high school athletes.

Sponsored by Interplast- Producers of High Quality PVC & HDPE Pipes, the 2015 Circuit will take place in three more venues after the Sunyani opener.

The second leg comes off on 6th June at Akatsi in the Volta Region, followed by the third leg at the El Wak Stadium on 4th July in Accra; while the final takes place at the Tamale Sports stadium on 8th August, 2015.

The one-day event will be a further boost for local athletes following the successful hosting of the Open Championships in Kumasi and Accra over the past few months.

At the inaugural event last year which was sponsored by Sea & Shore Services (Gh) Company Ltd and Interplast, awards were given to the top three athletes in each event, as reflected by the points amassed over the earlier competitions in the season in the final event at the Baba Yara stadium in Kumasi.

This was after athletes at each of the previous competitions in Wa, Sekondi and Koforidua, had been awarded points based on their final positions. Only the top 8 point scorers in each event were invited for the Circuit final, with each event going into a straight final.

Below are the events to be competed for in 2015:
