Mr Yussif Adam Ibrahim, Acting Deputy Commissioner, Human Resources of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), has advised staff against half-hearted approach to work.
He further asked them to stop running to Labour Unions when punished for wrong doings.
“Shoddy work is shoddy work, you cannot hide behind Labour Unions when you are found out”, Mr Ibrahim stated.
He was addressing the 16th Annual National Endurance Walk of the Division’s Senior Staff Association at Aflao, on the theme: “Walk For Health.”
It drew participants from headquarters, Tamale, Aflao, Wa, Elubo, Tema, Bolgatanga, Kumasi, Sunyani, Ho, James Town and the Kotoka International Airport collection.
Mr Ibrahim urged all to ensure integrity and hard work, to enable the Division undertake its core job of collecting revenue.
He commended the Division for meeting its first quarter target for the year.
Mr Ibrahim also commended the Association for arranging the walk, and said personnel must undertake regular exercises to maintain healthy bodies for their work and themselves.
He said the GRA took the health of its staff seriously, in view of the effect of ill-health on performance and the rising cost of care both locally and outside the country when the need arose.
Mr Ibrahim disclosed that clinics would be established at selected points, to cater for personnel, while memoranda of understanding with some hospitals for the care of staff had to be expanded.
He announced that promotions and recruitment were under way, but cautioned that pressure for transfers based on flimsy excuses, would not be tolerated.
Mr Ibrahim said health screening should be made compulsory and part of the health walk.
Miss Dzifa Gomashie, Deputy Tourism Minister, asked the GRA staff to arrange sensitization programmes, to bring themselves more closely to the public, and get some members of the public involved in the health walk, as a way of eliminating wrong perceptions about the Authority.
Some other security agencies, students, transport organizations, keep fit clubs, and Togolese counterparts of the GRA, took part in the 15 and 10-kilometre walk for men and women respectively, starting from Adina and Agorko to Aflao.
Mr Ernest Aglo, a Senior Collector at the Aflao Collection, which emerged group winners, became the overall individual winner, and for his prize, received a return ticket to Dubai.
Chiefs and customs counterparts from Togo were also given prizes, which included blenders and mattresses.
