Dr. Tweneboahs Date Of Arrest in Dispute

An Accra Fast Track High Court trying the alleged SIM box fraud case, involving Dr. Alexander Tweneboah, former boss of the Ghana Real Estates Development Association (GREDA) yesterday decided to move the court to three police stations, to verify the authenticity of some documents brought before the court.

This will help the court to ascertain the exact date the accused was apprehended, as lawyer for the accused, Fiifi Abbam, has disputed January 19, as the date of the arrest of Dr. Tweneboah, as presented to the court.

According to the lawyer, his client was arrested on January 17, and not January 19 as claimed by the police and the prosecution.

During a cross-examination of the fourth prosecution witness, Detective Constable Emmanuel Korley, of the Documentation and Visa Fraud unit of the police Service, Mr. Abbam, prayed the court to order for the police station diaries to unravel the misery surrounding the date.

The court, presided over by Efia Serwaa Asare Botchway, adjourned to Friday, so that the court can visit the CID headquarters, Osu and Batsona Police stations where the accused was kept, on his arrest.

Meanwhile, the third and fourth prosecution witnesses in the case, on Monday testified before the court. Emmanuel Agamasu and Korley, detective officers of the Criminal Investigative Department, were led in evidence by Joshua Sackey, a state attorney.

The witnesses told the court that they encountered the accused on January 19, when he (accused) was brought to the unit by their colleagues who embarked on an exercise to arrest people perpetrating illegality in the communication sector.

They said the accused was interrogated as a suspect in the alleged SIM box case, after which a caution statement was read to him and his statement taken.
