Reject Vote Buying Politicians - Ex Majority Leader

The New Patriotic Party ‘s (NPP) former majority leader in parliament and former Member of Parliament for the Tema West  constituency, Abraham Osei Aidoo has called on Ghanaians to strongly stand up against politicians who use money to buy their votes.

He emphasized that politicians who are into vote buying are not worth voting for, neither are they qualified to hold leadership positions.

He said Ghanaians should not entrust their power and future into the hands of incompetent politicians who at the end cannot produce any meaningful result leading to the development of their community and the improvement of the living conditions of the people.

“Ghanaians should never sell their votes to any politician, but vote for politicians who would fight for your interest, voting for incompetent candidates will make you and your family suffer,” he stated.

Lawyer Adu made the call in an interview with the DAILY HERITAGE over the weekend during the campaign launch of Carlos Kingsley Ahenkorah, an aspirant at Sakumono.

The three time parliamentarian for Tema West reiterated that politicians, especially, those in the NPP should stop the vote buying syndrome and aspire for purity; this according to him would bring transparency and sanity into the party.

“Voting for unqualified people breeds corruption, disunity and non-performance.” He emphasized.

Meanwhile, Lawyer Adu called for the protection of the seats of leaders of parliament, such as that of the majority and minority leaders in parliament.

According to him, the parties and the people of their constituencies should do whatever it takes to maintain them on their seats because they are great assets to the party and the nation as a whole and therefore must be given the mandate to continue contributing to the decision making processes of the House.

He entreated both the National Democratic Congress and the NPP, to rally their support behind the minority leader, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, MP for Suame and Alban Kingsford Bagbin, MP for Nadowli-Kaleo constituency to secure their seats.

He said the minority leader of parliament contributed immensely when he was the majority leader during the reign of former president J. A. Kufuor.

Meanwhile, the colourful occasion which was overwhelmingly attended by party delegates and supporters turned out to be a confession time where members revealed their plot against his candidacy and pleaded for forgiveness.

Members began to point out one by one the brain behind the downfall of lawyer Adu. Members who could not hide their embarrassment disclosed how they used propaganda to pull him out of the seat because they were yearning for change; however, they regretted the choice they made in less than a year, by bringing the incumbent MP, Irene Naa Torshie Addo.

The former majority leader expressed disappointment in the NPP for sidelining him since he lost his seat six years ago.

He said the invitation by Mr Ahenkorah indicates that he wants unity in the party and pledged to go all out to campaign for him.
