FUSSAG-CHS Cautions Administrators

The Federation of University Senior Staff Association College of Health Sciences (FUSSAG-CHS) has issued a statement to warn its administrators over what they described as undue delay in the payment of their salaries and financial benefits.

Below is a full statement signed and released to the press by the Chairman of FUSSAG-CHS), Haruna Rafik.

PRESS STATEMENT BY THE FEDERATION OF UNIVERSITIES SENIOR STAFF ASSOCIATION COLLEGE OF HEALTH SCIENCES (FUSSAG-CHS), KORLE BU LOCAL ON 22ND MAY, 2015

The Union resumed its strike action on 13th February, 2015 to press home our demand for our unionized membership to be paid interim market premium and also to ensure fair labour practices on our campus.

We wish to bring to the notice of the government and the general public the continuous disregard of the courts of the land by our management where a matter between the University of Ghana and the two Unions, thus FUSSAG and TEWU CHS is before it yet management of the University of Ghana has gone ahead to stop paying the Salaries of our Unionized staff for strange reasons without due recourse to the law.

One would have said the only proper thing to do when a matter is before a competent Court of jurisdiction, it is for you to wait patiently for the court to pronounce it’s judgment at the right time rather than resorting to illegal and foul means to selectively pay the Salaries of some members whiles failing to pay others with the intention to discriminate, intimidate and Cowardly seeking to divide the front of the Unions.

We are sending a word of caution to management of the College of Health Sciences to pay heed to the laws of our land and refrain from this illegality especially when it is part of their own claim that though Unionized staffs are on strike they still receive their salaries. This caution is as well directed to the College Secretary Mrs. Ama Kwaa and the School Administrator of the School of Medicine and Dentistry Mr. Michael Opare Atuah who have allowed themselves to be used by senior management to orchestrate this illegality.

It is worthy of note that these administrators who are championing this act of selectivity equally embarked on a similar industrial action lasting not less than the period we have been on strike. Nevertheless, they continued to be paid their salaries in full until they got their Market Premiums paid to them, so for them to apply separate rules on the Senior and Junior staff of the College it is quiet rich.

We believe without prejudice that the attitude of management regarding the selective payment of Salaries for the months of April and May lacks any reasonable basis because their reason for such an unpopular action is that, they are paying our skeletal staff whom we initially allowed some to assist in the day to day running of the college but the irony of it is that we have staff currently working but have not been paid, others are fully on strike but got paid, intermittently some of our members pass through the work place and some of those under this categories got paid whiles others didn’t.

It is clear that the situation is so confusing at the College that one cannot tell why management instead of being interested in finding a lasting solution to the matter or waiting patiently for the court to do its work have rather resorted in this “pick and choose” attitude for which the Unions had to declare an absolute strike thereby making it criminal for any of its members to further continue to assist in any form of work at the College until the matter is determined by the High court.

We are calling on all who matter to rise up to the occasion and speak up for our Salaries and all other financial benefits due us to be paid with immediate effect. We say No to “unfair labour practices” and call on our Provost, Prof. Yao Tettey and the College Secretary, Ama Kwaa to desist from their wicked, selfish and diabolic agenda by denying us what rightfully belongs to us.
Thank you.
