Kweku Baako Pats OccupyGhana On The Back

Abdul Malik Kweku Baako, Editor-In-Chief of the New Crusading Guide, has lauded pressure group, OccupyGhana for its attempt to make the Government of Ghana accountable to the citizenry.

Kweku Baako commended the group stressing that their advocacy is a major boost for the country's democracy.

OccupyGhana has been mounting pressure on government not to misappropriate public funds.

It has also been calling for a refund of all monies that were illegally dished out to companies transacting business with government on behalf of the citizenry.

Speaking on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo", Kweku Baako believed OccupyGhana's efforts will help build “critical mass” Ghanaian thinkers to also ensure that the government renders full account on its expenditures.

It’s important. It helps our democracy. It helps good governance. If they don’t provide it, yes, the hint has been given that there are appropriate fora to glean the information for us. That’s a kind of focus approach I’m talking about. It doesn’t matter which party is in government. That is the culture that should be developed and create a critical mass of Ghanaians who believe in that kind of advocacy. It’s in our interest…That is the principle I think we shouldn’t negotiate away in any circumstances,” he said.

Mr. Baako however implored government to take necessary sanctions against persons found guilty of misappropriating public funds.
