A group of professionals known as KNUST Frontliners at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), who have thrown their weight behind the main opposition, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has cautioned the party leadership to refrain from causing further distress following the death of its Upper East Regional Chairman, Alhaji Adams Mahama.
The Frontliners believe that the outcome of investigations was necessary and admonished the hierarchy of the party to reflect and be sober in the period of sorrow and pain being endured by the bereaved family and the party.
A statement issued and signed by the Chairman of the KNUST Frontliners, Dr Kwabena Boadu, stated: “Let us refrain from any act that can potentially cause further distress within the rank and file of the party. This is the time that party leadership at all levels needs to think more and talk less and not be in haste in their decisions and actions.”
It further stated that: “We need to hold our hands together and demonstrate to the whole world that even in our anguish, we are resolute in our determination to close our ranks and soldier on in our quest to win power in 2016.”
It said the acid attack on Mahama was a crime of the highest order and called on the security agencies to make thorough investigations and apprehend the culprits and “no matter their political affiliation, status or colour;” justice must be served well.
“We have learnt with great shock and anguish the circumstances leading to the untimely death of our dear patriot, Alhaji Adams Mahama, the Upper East Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party. Indeed, we have lost a doyen and an irreplaceable stalwart in contemporary politics within the party and in the northern part of our country,” the statement read.
The group expressed its sympathy with the immediate family and the entire fraternity of the “great elephant family.”
The group, however, maintained that: “We the Frontliners are very firm in our mind that the party will emerge stronger, focused and more united than ever to fulfil the expectations of the numerous Ghanaians who look up to us to redeem them from the shackles of mismanagement by the NDC government. The battle ahead of us in 2016 is daunting and we shall overcome.”
