Vacate Flood Prone Areas - NADMO

The Tema Office of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) has urged residents living in the seven flood risk areas in the Tema Metropolis to vacate to safe places during this raining season.

The flood risk areas are Tema Newtown (Chemu lagoon area), Community One Market, Aponkye Clinic area in Community Five, Lashibi Klagon, communities 16-22, VALCO Down, and Adjei-Kojo Sun city.

Hajia Zenabu Abdulai, Tema Metropolitan NADMO Coordinator, told the Ghana News Agency, that moving to identified safe places in this flood prone areas would reduce incidents of casualties and displaced persons.

Hajia Abdulai said the Eastern Naval Base, Light House International Church, TMA forecourt, Grace Outreach Church, Stanley Business College and Be the Prayer Camp were the safest place for residents at Tema Newtown, Community One, and Aponkye Clinic area.

Residents at Lashibi Klagon, communities 16-22, VALCO Down, and Adjei-Kojo Sun City could also take refuge at St Augustine Catholic Church, George Gunner International Academy, Victorious Child Ministry, and Adjei-Kojo public school respectively.

She also reminded residents to always think about their safety first during the raining season instead of salvaging their belongings in the flood as that could lead to drowning.

On the flood situation in Tema during the last downpour, she said three persons were reported to have drowned, while a number of roads got flooded and over 100 residents were displaced.

She implored residents not to hesitate to call her outfit for the needed assistance during the raining season.
Hajia Abdulai also appealed to non-governmental organizations, institutions and individuals to donate relief items to NADMO to be distributed to flood victims.
