Management of GOIL fuel station has said it lost eight employees in Wednesday’s fire explosion at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle.
The company has also expressed its commitment to partner with other stakeholders to investigate the incident.
“We are fully committed to partnering all stakeholders in all investigations surrounding this disaster,” GOIL noted in a statement.
Scores of Ghanaians died while seeking shelter at the GOIL fuel station during the heavy downpour on Wednesday.
About 150 people have so far been confirmed to have died in the incident.
President John Mahama has declared three days of national mourning for the victims.
GOIL, in a statement noted that the Board, Management and Staff “remain totally shocked and share in the pain of all families and friends who lost their lives.”
It said the fateful day “goes down as a dark day in the annals of GOIL and Ghana.”
Meanwhile prominent political figures have called on government and other agencies to fix perennial floods.
The Progressive People’s Party’s (PPP), Kwesi Ndoum on Thursday chastised government for not taking measures to fix the problem, saying “we have to take some measures to avoid this in the future. Often when these measures are drastic, you have a lot of sympathy and pressure not to take these measures. But I think the time has come for us to move houses out of the waterways. The public should understand that it is necessary to take such measures to save everybody else.”
