Nii Okwei Kinka Dowuona VI, Osu Mantse has extended condolences to the bereaved families of the Wednesday, June 3 rain disaster victims in Accra.
He said it was mind-boggling that people met their sudden deaths in such a tragic manner, adding: “The Bible says in every situation we should give thanks to God, the creator.”
He appealed to the government to factor in population growth when designing infrastructural development in the cities and towns to prevent calamities.
Nii Kinka Dowuona also the President of the Osu Traditional Council extended the sympathies to the media after he led traditional leaders to perform rituals to lift the ban on drumming and noise making in the area on Friday, paving the way for the annual Homowo Festival, which literally means “hooting at hunger”.
The Osu Mantse, under whose jurisdiction the rain disaster fell called on the citizens to be conscious of the environment and avoid dumping solid waste into drains to prevent such situations in future.
"It is not about politics. We need to change our negative attitude towards sanitation in this country for the better of all us," he said.
Nii Kinka Dowuona appealed to corporate bodies to support the Osu Traditional Council to undertake development projects in the area.
