City Authorities Urged To Enforce Building Laws

The National House of Chiefs has urged city authorities to enforce building regulations to permanently end the perennial flooding in Accra and other parts of the country.

A press statement issued by the NHC on the June 3rd inferno and flooding that claimed more than 150 lives, said: “We urge city authorities to hold the bull by the horn by enforcing building regulations to avoid the recurrence of flooding in Accra and other parts of the country”.

A statement signed by Mr Stephen Owusu, the Public Relations Officer, on behalf of Naa Professor John S Nabila, the President of the House, and copied to the Ghana News Agency, on Monday.

It expressed its condolences to the bereaved families saying, “We pray that the Good Lord consoles them and find place for their departed loved ones”.

The statement called for concerted efforts and cooperation with city authorities to nip in the bud similar future occurrences.

“We congratulate the security agencies and the Government for the swift action and intervention during the incident,” the release said.

The statement wished the injured a speedy recovery and urged Ghanaians to offer them the needed support in this trying moment.
