NPP Primaries: Commotion At Some ConstituenciesAsokwa, Weija, Sawla & Shama On Fire

The elephant fraternity currently electing its parliamentary candidates for 2016 elections in various constituencies has been hit with some confusions leading to annulling of proceedings in some areas.

Peacefmonline.com has learnt that some unknown land guards who are reported to have stormed the Weija-Gbawe constituency have disturbed the election proceedings.

It is unclear what their mission was but the armed men numbering about 15 claimed they are there to protect one executive member, Kwesi Badu.

According reports, Kwesi Badu was accused of mocking another member because his name and picture in the register was different.

The claims which did not go down well with him (Kwesi Badu) and matters degenerated into fisticuffs because he was prevented from voting.

The situation has led to chaos at the constituency – voting has stalled.

However, the situation is not different in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba constituency in the Northern region as voting has been called off.

Confusion upturned when ballot papers delivered to the constituency by the EC came without the picture of an aspirant - supporters of the affected candidate are raging with anger over the issue.

Again, the presiding Bishop of the Methodist church at Shama in the Western region, Very Rev. Kwamena Essel has disrupted the primaries at the church premise.

According to him, party executives refused to notify him before embarking on the exercise – “Voting cannot go on here,” he is quoted to have said.

Rev. Essel maintained that the church does not approve of partisan political activities on its premises –“We don’t want anyone to tag us to any political party”.

In the Asokwa constituency in the Ashanti region, Maxwell Kofi Jumah, former Member of Parliament for the Asokwa constituency, has been arrested.

Mr. Kofi Jumah is reported to have torn the voters album being used in the primary on the suspicion that it has been doctored to favour incumbent, Patricia Appiagyei.

Voting is currently on hold as party officials try to put things in order.
