Mr Samuel Ato Afful, General Manager of YFM, Kumasi branch, has called for a national initiative to encourage Ghanaians to donate a little of their income to support the underprivileged in society.

“If we all would donate just a tiny fraction of our income to helping the needy and less privileged in society, I am sure the world will certainly be a better place for us all. It is through no fault of these children that they are orphans so they must not be made to suffer the consequences of whatever led them to these homes”, he insisted.

The young YFM General Manager made the call when he donated assorted items to inmates of Remar Ghana, a Christian Centre for Help and Rehabilitation in Patasi, Kumasi over the weekend. The gesture is to commemorate his birthday which fell on 9th June.

Items donated include food items, groceries, toiletries and stationery.

Mr Afful believes “as human beings, our worth is not in what we possess but what we make out of our possessions. Besides, giving in itself is a privilege and we need to encourage each other to have the desire to assist others”.

Ato Afful disclosed that, one of his greatest worries is to see people suffer for what obviously isn’t their making.

“I usually get very disturbed when I see images of displaced people on television and in the dailies. Unfortunately, one huge challenge for me was where to donate and the quantum. However this year, I had a strong awakening within me to donate the little I can. I came to the realisation and acceptance that, I didn’t need so much to be able to reach out to others. All I needed was the personal conviction; and I’m glad of the results today”.

Ms Hammy Usman, Face of Golden Tulip, Kumasi, who collaborated with Mr Afful to do the donation, advised the inmates of the Home to endeavour to eschew bitterness and greed at all times. She admonished the children to learn hard, work hard and be respectful at all times.

“You should always learn to forgive one another and be willing to help people when they are in need. As children, you must always respect your elders but report people who try to abuse you in any form”.

The caretaker of the Home, Uncle Thomas, as he is affectionately called, thanked Mr Afful for the gesture and prayed for God’s infinite blessings for him, whiles hoping that the gesture will encourage other individuals and corporate institutions to give a little of their monthly income to support the needy.

The smiles and feeling of hope and love on the faces of the beneficiaries could not be hidden as they expressed appreciation to all who have been extending a helping hand to the Home and the needy.
