BECE Pregnancy Galore �8 Candidates Pregnant In 4 Centres In E/R

Eight Candidates writing the ongoing Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in four centres in the Eastern Region are reported pregnant.

Two candidates from Boti L/A Junior High School (JHS) were found to be pregnant, while a candidate from the Nkurakan M/A school in the Yilo Krobo district was also found to be pregnant during a tour of the schools.

A visit to the Okorase Methodist JHS centre where 158 candidates from six schools were writing the exams revealed that two were also pregnant with one absentee.

Two candidates out of the three absentee candidates were pregnant. Another candidate from the Nsawam Presbyterian JHS failed to turn up for the exams due to pregnancy.

At the Nsawam Presby School centre, a total of 408 candidates from 13 schools were writing the examination.

The Eastern Regional Minister, Antwi Bosiako Sekyere, who visited a number of centres in the Eastern Region encouraged the pregnant candidates who were writing the examination to persevere and finish the exercise in order to gain admission into second cycle institutions.

He advised the candidates to desist from examination malpractices and acts that may jeopardize their success.

A total of 41,172, comprising 22,034 males and 19,138 females were expected to write the BECE in the Eastern Region. But, a total of 17 absentees were recorded in five centres in two districts.

Twenty nine candidates from the Akropong School for the Blind were part of 345 candidates writing the exams at the Okuapeman SHS centre.
