NPP Introduced Moneycracy Into Ghana Politics In 1993 - Ametor-Quarmyne

A member of the communication team of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Ametor Quarmyne has fingered the opposition New Patriotic Party for introducing “moneycracy" into Ghana’s politics.

He defined “moneycracy” to mean inducing delegates with money to amass votes in the name of practicing democracy.

His worry is derived from the fact that some of the incumbent Members of Parliament from the opposition New Patriotic Party who lost their seats have blamed it on some aspirants who influenced delegates with money.

Speaking on Atinka Fm’s Morning Show, Ametor Quarmyne asserted that “until NPP came into politics in 1993 to introduce money into our body politics in the country, there was no such behavior and elections have been conducted without money exchanging hands”.

He feared that if this “moneycracy” is allow to gaining root and grow in the country, there will be influx of irresponsible and unintelligent but affluent personalities at the helm of affairs as this will spell doom for the growth of the country.

He maintained the use of money in politics is dangerous and serious which need to be tabled so that the future will suffer this “moneycracy” syndrome; adding “winning power will be given to the highest bidder if we don’t check this”.

“This behavior will deny the knowledgeable and deserving candidate and allow the undeserving and unintelligent candidate to win power because of money. The issue of money “moneycracy” whether in NPP, NDC or CPP is not good,” he opined.

He however commended the opposition NPP for organizing successful primaries but mentioned the issues of changing the voters register at the last hour to the electionsm and that creating misunderstanding among the contenders took away the shine of the success.
