The maiden Fashion Design E-Learning portal has been launched, with a call by the Minister for Education, Prof.Naana Jane Opoku-Agyeman, on Ghanaians to attach importance to vocational and technical education.
She said this has the tendency to create more job opportunities to reduce unemployment and turn the economic fortunes of the country around.
The minister made this statement when she launched the E-Learning portal for Fashion Design, introduced by Joyce Ababio College of Creative Design (JACCD), in Accra.
According to her the initiative, supported by the Council for Technical and Vocation Education and Training (COTVET) and the Skills Development Fund (SDF) reaffirmed the commitment of the ministry to rebrand vocational and technical education in the country.
She expressed her gratitude to the leadership of the school for taking a step to make education flexible to all.
She urged people in other professions who have interest in learning designing, to take advantage of the development to register online for classes.
She also charged the students to focus on their studies to help them achieve their dreams as great designers.
The president of JACCD, Joyce Ababio, said, the portal is to enable fashion designers, students and the general public gain the desired fashion design skills, to strengthen the industry and to promote entrepreneurship.
According to her, she developed the interest for fashion in her infancy, but she attained fame, when a dress she had designed for a contestant won the best formal evening wear at the Miss World competition.
Following this, her confidence grew, leading to her present status, as one of the great designers in the country.
Madam Ababio called for restructuring of the fashion industry to inject life into the sector for national development.
She expressed her appreciation to COTVET for supporting her to attain her dream.
