Nii Noi Supporters Storm NPP Head Office

Supporters of Nii Noi Nortey, the embattled parliamentary aspirant in the Klottey Korley constituency, on Thursday besieged the headquarters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) at Asylum Down, Accra to protest against alleged attempts to prevent him from participating in the impending primary.

The Klottey Korley is part of 30 constituencies whose elections have been put on hold by leadership of the party to enable them resolve some outstanding issues.

Delegates in the constituency could not vote in primaries held across the country last Saturday.

Some party members alleged that Nii Noi, a former constituency chairman for the area presented a fake University of Ghana certificate to the Vetting Committee of the party.

The issue was later referred to the regional executives and later forwarded to the national executives.

It has however turned out that he has no certificate from the University of Ghana.

Some members of the party in the constituency warned againstattempts to disqualify the man who is contesting with lawyer Philip Addison and one Nii Adjei Tawiah.

The protesters claimed they were constituency and polling station executives.

Amidst chants of ‘no Nii Noi, no vote,’ the over 200 party faithful who stormed the party’s headquarters, threatened not to vote if Nii Noi is disqualified.

They were however prevented from entering the premises.

At the time of their visit, members of the Appeals Committee were deliberating over certain controversial issues affecting the party.

Speaking to the media, spokesman for group, one Daniel Opoku Amponsah said “with what is happening we smell rat, we believe there is an attempt to vilify and disqualify one of the candidates in the person of Nii Noi Nortey.”

“What we are saying is very simple; we are saying that if the party has room for persons to contest on the ticket of the party in the constituency, then those who have filed their nominations should be allowed.”

“What we are saying is very simple, that peace must be allowed to prevail in the constituency,” he added.

Another member of the group, Prince Kissi said, “NPP should forget Korley Klottey if they disqualify Nii because we don’t see the essence of sacrificing for the party anymore. This young man sacrificed as the chairman and has brought a lot of development to the party. The party is attractive in the constituency,” he fumed.

Prince Kissi, who also highlighted some of the achievements of Nii Nortey, said the “NPP under his leadership has taken hold of NDC strongholds like Osu Alata and has been training polling station executives, putting up good welfare schemes to take care of party members. He has personally funded every party activity within the constituency since he became chairman.”
