Farmer To Sue Contractor Over Destruction Of Fishpond

Osagyefo Stephens, the reigning district best farmer in Ahanta West in the Western Region, is contemplating taking legal action against a contractor who, he alleged, is responsible for the destruction of his fishpond.

He said the destruction of the project, located in the heart of the free zones enclave in the Ahanta West District, has cost him millions of cedis.

Speaking to journalists, the best district farmer said he was never informed by the contractor or authorities in the district about work being carried out in the area.

“If for nothing at all, I though courtesy demands that I should be made aware and given some time to relocate my fishpond, instead of someone taking the law into his own hands and doing whatever he pleases.

“Why should someone cause such serious damage to my fish farming business without recourse to the financial commitment and investment I have made in putting up the project,” he asked.

The 29-year-old professional teacher, who claims to have devoted much of his resources to agricultural business in the Ahanta area, said if authorities in the sector fail to bring the perpetrator to book, he and other farmers could run out of business.

Investigations conducted by The Finder have revealed that roads and warehouses are currently being developed by investors in the said area, demarcated as free zones enclave.

When contacted, the contractor declined to comment, but there are indications that talks are currently ongoing between the parties to settle the impasse amicably.
