Mad Man Butchers 4�And Drinks A Gallon Of Akpeteshie To Death

A Mentally deranged palm wine tapper, Seth Akakpo has allegedly butchered four persons at Pabi, a farming community near Asamankese in the Eastern Region. The suspect allegedly attempted suicide and later died at the Asamankese government hospital where he was receiving treatment after drinking a gallon of local gin, popularly called akpeteshie, to commit suicide. The deceased are Evans Kpodo, seven-year-old son of the suspect; Sovi Fiavi, 63, one Bernice and Boatemaa, 30, sister in-law of the deceased. Young Kpodo and Fiavi who sustained deep machete wounds died instantly on the fateful day, while Miss Boatemaa and the suspect died yesterday at the Koforidua government hospital and Asamankese government hospital respectively. However, one of the victims of the brutal machete attack, Kwama Badu has been treated and discharged. The pregnant wife of the victim also escaped the attack. The ex-wife of the deceased suspect, Rebecca Mawusi, told the DAILY HERITAGE that, the incident happened on Tuesday at around 7:30pm when they had finished eating. According to her, the ex-husband invited the son to the house for a conversation. However, after a few minutes, she received distress calls that the son had been butchered by the ex-husband. She added that four other persons who stormed the house to help apprehend the suspect were butchered. According to her, Miss Boatemaa, sister in-law to the deceased, sustained deep cutlass wounds in the stomach which led to her intestines gushing out. According to one Mr. Ofosu, a unit committee member in the area, the victims were rushed to the hospital. However, Bernice and the suspect, Akakpo, died on Thursday at the Koforidua Government hospital and Asamankese government hospital respectively. He denied a claim by the police that residents poured acid on the suspect and explained that the suspect attempted suicide by drinking a gallon of alcohol, but later ran into hiding in a nearby bush where he was arrested and handed over to the police. He said the deceased suspect had a strange disease which made him act violently like a mad person. This condition, she said happened once in two years. The Asamankese Police Commander, Supt. Anane Appiah told the DAILY HERITAGE that investigations had commenced into the matter. He assured that the police will unravel the mystery behind the brutal killings of the four residents.
