Midland Savings & Loans Support The Blind With White Canes

Ghana stands to benefit immensely from the blind if they are given the necessary attention and given the guidance to perform their daily chores. For this reason, Midland Savings and Loans Ltd has partnered Ghana Blind Union (GBU) to raise funds for its vulnerable members who can’t afford a white cane.

A white cane is used by many people who are blind or visually impaired. Its primary uses are as a mobility tool.

According to Mr. Micheal Adjovu, who is the Managing Director for Midland Savings and Loans Ltd, purchasing white canes for our blind brothers and sisters would boost their confidence when it comes to performing their daily chores.

“The cost of a white cane is only GHC 30 but most of the blind victims can’t afford it because they don’t have any work to do. Therefore Midland S&L saw the need to partner the union to raise fund for them”, Mr. Adjovu said.

President of the Ghana Blind Union, Mrs. Ayshetu Abu-Karim, congratulated Midland and thanked them for the support shown. She indicated that the proceeds from the event would be used to purchase the white canes as planned by their partner.

“This event is important because some of the blind fellows can’t walk without the support of a white cane. With the white canes, they can walk and perform the basic daily operation they want to do”, she said.
