Sex Affair Wont Bring Me Down

Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has said his soccer career will not be affected adversely by the allegations of rape and sodomy thrown at him by the 22-year-old lady who initially threatened to make public a secretly recorded sex video of an intercourse she had with him.

“What has kept me going up to this time is my mental toughness. All through my career, I have always contended with obstacles whenever I’m trying to do anything but I never give up because I am mentally strong. I have not always had things running smoothly for me but I try to sail through,” Gyan was quoted by Happy FM to have said in response to how he is handling the challenge.

“People may not know but my favourite genre of music is gospel. I listen to gospel songs every time and that is what inspires me; and I sing them too,” a news report by the station further quoted Gyan.

The 22-year-old lady, Sarah Kwabla, introduced herself to Gyan as a university student and they had a distant love relationship for a few months. In February this year, she reportedly invited him to her apartment, where they had sexual intercourse.

Months later, Sarah informed the footballer she was pregnant and started sending him threatening messages that she secretly recorded their sexual encounter and that she would make the video public if her demands were not met.

Sarah demanded that Asamoah Gyan should get her a furnished apartment, a housemaid and a monthly stipend of $1,000—approximately GH¢4,300.

Gyan’s lawyers subsequently lodged a complaint of harassment against Sarah and both parties agreed that a DNA test be conducted to ascertain whether or not Asamoah Gyan was responsible for the pregnancy, especially when a scan done to get the age of the pregnancy did not tally with the date they had the sexual intercourse.

Pending the DNA test, however, there was an agreement that Gyan would give the lady an amount of GH¢2000 each month to cover antenatal expenses.

Interestingly, Sarah Kwabla did not turn up for the DNA test on the agreed date. She rather got her lawyer, Maurice Ampaw, to report a fresh case of rape and sodomy againt Asamoah Gyan.

Sarah Kwabla, in her initial statement to the police, said the sexual affair she had with Asamoah Gyan in February was consensual. By June she changed her mind and filed a new case alleging that it was rape and sodomy.
