NPP Politicians Responsible For Cedi Fall NDC Communicator

A deputy National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress, Kwaku Boahen has called on the Ghanaian business community to blame opposition politicians especially the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the decline of the cedi against the dollar.

Kwaku Boahen speaking on Adom FM Monday alleged that the opposition politicians 'who do not know what to do with the plenty kick backs they received while in government have changed them into US dollars, kept them in holes dug in their rooms and are releasing them in bits and pieces.'

“These NPP, CPP and PPP politicians smuggle some of the dollars abroad illegally, when they are arrested, people call it witch hunting...some also pack them in their rooms, they dig holes and put the dollars in them…,” he said.

Mr Boahen, while commenting on the steep decline of the Ghana cedi against major trading currencies including the US dollar in recent times, claimed that these politicians have formed a cartel and are doing brisk illegal business.

“They have collaborated with some Bank Managers and Forex Bureau owners and they immediately pack their monies into their rooms as soon as the dollars are released. [They do this] because they do not know what to do with the plenty kick backs they received…,” Kwaku Boahen, who used to be the Ashanti Region Youth Organiser of the NDC, said.

To further ensure that they benefit more from their loot, the NDC communicator said the opposition politicians 'cause dirty speculation’ so as to create unnecessary panic for people to rush to buy the few dollars circulating in the system, putting further pressure .
