The National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr John Boadu, has cautioned the electorate in Talensi about campaign promises of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) before the July 7, 2015 by-election.
He said information reaching the NPP indicated that the NDC had already given out contracts to connect about 17 communities in the constituency to the national grid.
"The NDC will be coming with a lot of promises; I have heard that as we speak now they have given contracts to connect about 17 communities in this constituency. We thank them. If it had not been for the NPP, they wouldn't have done what we voted them to do and we expect that they will continue to do more."
He added that the NDC would be bringing them millet, rice, maize, oil and money just to entice them, and asked them to collect those items as they were bought with the taxpayer's money. He alleged they would also come with stories about new things they would be doing for them, including the construction of roads, harbours and even free air to breath. "Let them know that had it not been for the NPP, they wouldn't have come here to give you what they are giving you, so take everything, it is your own money".
Primaries The national organiser made these comments after the NPP elected a parliamentary candidate to represent the party in a by-election in the Talensi constituency scheduled for July 7, 2015.
Mr Thomas Duanab Pearson Wuni, a 51-year-old accountant at the Nsawam Government Hospital and a graduate of the GIMPA Law School, was elected as the parliamentary candidate to represent the party at the party's primaries held at Tongo in the Talensi District of the Upper East Region.
He polled 182 votes to defeat Mr Robert Ayinaba Alibo, a 42-year-old worker with World Vision, who polled 119 votes, and Mr William Zoogah, a 50-year-old accountant and businessman, who polled 96 votes. Mr Boadu asked the electorate to prove to the NDC that the by-election was just the beginning of a bigger victory come 2016 by voting Mr Wuni as their member of Parliament with Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo as their president come 2016.
NASARA Coordinator The NASARA Coordinator of the NPP, Mr Kamaldeen Abdulai, said the only and surest way to victory was for the NPP faithful to close their ranks and advised them to not let their differences make them to lose the elections to their opponents. Mr Wuni said in the cause of their campaign their followers and supporters would have said unpalatable things about some candidates and so urged the candidates to forgive such people and work together.
The two candidates who lost to Mr Wuni pledged their support and also promised to commit their resources and time to ensure the NPP retained the seat.
